Gordon Mote.jpg

Multitalented artist and musician Gordon Mote will be our guest speaker/performer at our first meeting of 2019 on March 5th. A special thanks to Ron Iserman for making this happen.

Blind since birth, Gordon Mote’s faith provides the foundation for his life and constantly fuels his creative spirit. When he was just three, Gordon surprised his family on Thanksgiving by sitting down at the piano and miraculously playing “Jesus Loves Me”. Still kids, Gordon and his brother later traveled and sang in churches of all sizes and denominations.

As a young man, Gordon became one of the first blind students in the country to be mainstreamed into the public school system and later received a full scholarship to Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama. He later transferred to Nashville’s Belmont University. Two days after graduation, Lee Greenwood asked Gordon to join his band. Since then, he’s toured with Trisha Yearwood, Tanya Tucker, Porter Wagoner, the Gaither Vocal Band, and the long-running Gaither Homecoming Tour.

As a studio musician, Mote’s big break came when Country Music Hall of Fame keyboardist Pig Robbins was unable to make an Alan Jackson session and recommended that Gordon fill in. Since then, he has played for Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, Bob Seger, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie and many others.

Gordon has also recorded a string of critically acclaimed solo albums including the Dove Award-nominated If You Could Hear What I See (2004).

Dickey Lee, one of GIFT’s founders and friend to so many of you, first brought our attention to the talented young man, Conrad Fisher who will be our guest this month. Dickey does a great job of befriending and encouraging new talents like Conrad and he will introduce him Tuesday. We look forward to seeing you then!

An energetic old soul who writes and plays music steeped in Americana roots, Conrad Fisher, 24, hails from Eastern Pennsylvania. Raised Mennonite, he grew up listening to Appalachian folk music played by his family on homemade instruments. Soon he was playing guitar and writing songs of his own influenced by the music of John Prine, Bob Mcdill, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, and Jason Isbell. Fisher joined a local band when he was 17 and became the group's leader and manager 3 years later. He continued to perform throughout the Northeast and Canada. In January 2018 he moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in songwriting. He works for an undertaker at night to support his music habit during the day.

Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, Buddy Greene has been performing for audiences since the tender age of ten, but his first big break came when, as a young man, he landed a position in country superstar Jerry Reed’s band. By 1984, Buddy and wife Vicki had moved to Nashville where he was able to more fully develop as a musician, entertainer, and songwriter.

In 1986, Buddy released his first solo recording, a self-titled debut of original gospel music and he began touring the country as a featured performer with gospel greats Bill and Gloria Gaither. Over the last 30+ years, Buddy has performed across America, made numerous trips abroad, and released twenty recording projects.

Buddy’s latest project, Looking Back, provides a strong summary statement of Buddy’s journey as a Christian, songwriter, instrumentalist, and skillful interpreter of songs.

Many of you have seen the video of Buddy in Carnegie Hall performing his standing ovation inducing classical music performance as well as his many appearances on Gaither's Homecoming. Join us as we are blessed by this great man's talents and testimony.

Attendees will receive a copy of Looking Back on CD.

We'll kick off 2018 with Sam Boyd as our special guest speaker this First Tuesday.

Dr. Sam Boyd is the Senior Pastor of Forest Hills Baptist Church since 2007. Before coming to Forest Hills, Sam pastored churches in Illinois, Florida, Georgia and North Carolina.

A Tennessee native, Sam graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelors degree in architecture. He went to seminary at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, where he earned his Master of Divinity, Master of Religious Education, and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

Don't let the degrees fool you, though. Sam is a thoroughly down-to-earth preacher and teacher, known for sharing practical and often surprising principles from the scriptures. He's also known for his boldness; you'll never hear Sam water down the Bible, which he sees as an infallible guide for living and the story of God's love for us all.

"Sam is not only a gifted preacher of God's Word but also a loving and caring pastor of his Flock at Forest Hills. You may recall, Sam's wife, Carolyn was the spokesperson and face of the Ray Stevens Charity Golf Classic in 2016 and 2017 which benefitted ALS research as well as GIFT. Carolyn was a victim of the disease and passed away in September of 2017. She was the mother of three daughters and grandmother of nine grandchildren. Carolyn and Sam were married 41 years."
