We are honored to have our good friend Dallas Frazier as our special guest speaker this First Tuesday!

Legendary songwriter Dallas Frazier, was born October 27, 1939 in Spiro, Oklahoma. and raised in the Bakersfield, California area. Dallas started to write songs by age eleven and in 1952, he started working for Ferlin Husky. At age fourteen, he signed with Capitol Records and had his first big hit in the summer of 1960 with the song “Alley Oop”. The Hollywood Argyles went to the #1 spot in the Billboard with it.

In late 1963, Dallas and his wife Sharon moved to Tennessee on a train. Again, he connected with his old friend Ferlin. He signed with Ferlin’s Publishing Company and soon got established as a writer with a promising future. Over the years, Dallas has written hundreds of songs and has left an indelible mark on the music industry. “Elvira”, “There Goes My Everything”, “If My Heart Had Windows”, “Mohair Sam”, “All I Have To Offer You Is Me” and “The Son Of Hickory Hollers Tramp” are just a few of the successful songs contained in his catalogue.

One of his most cherished honors was being inducted into the Nashville Songwriter’s Association, International Hall Of Fame in 1976. His taste and appreciation for music covers a vast range; from Bluegrass to Pavarotti. His roots are country but that didn’t stop him from developing a great love for the blues and other genres. He’s not a man that you can label or put in a box!

On the spiritual side, Dallas is a non-denominational Christian minister. For the most part he was retired from the music business from 1976 to 2006. Much of that time was spent in Christian ministry. From 1999 to 2006 he was the pastor of Grace Community Fellowship, a non-denominational church near White House, Tennessee. However, his creative aspirations are tugging at him again and he feels that God has confirmed to him that his greatest work is in the days ahead.
